Synthetic Organics

Flowers to me have always been a very clichéd image of romance, femininity, and passion.
Would I like a bouquet of red roses for Valentine's Day? I'd rather a bunch of wildflowers...that however, is also a cliché. Which is why I prefer tulips or alstromerias for birthdays and anniversaries.

Even though I have not fully embraced the symbolism of flowers, I have accepted the symphony of petals, leaves and stems. Displaying their forms on alternate media and surfaces can also make for lovelier things.
What matters is not the fact that we are viewing a bunch of flowers, but rather a rich array of dynamic lines, colors, and organic shapes.

Chinese table staple: Toothpicks.

Chocolate-walnut base for a light fluffy cheesecake, topped off with bittersweet chocolate mousse.  For a certain kind of day.

Red straws at your local Singaporean hawker stall.

Sugar packets in a small watering can.  Unfortunately the smaller details of the cafe were the saving graces to bigger atmospheric upsets.

Visually appealing, but the lemon meringue tart left much to be desired; the undissolved granules of sugar provided an unwelcome sensation in the meringue.

Wild Rocket's choice of placecard and tableware remind me of brunch in New York.

Salmon carpaccio served on a bed of brown rice and garnished with sesame seed and seaweed.  A Japanese rice ball re-imagined.
